On Friday 10th January 2014, almost 70 children from 8 primary schools participated in the second of our highly popular ‘Challenge Workshops’, which are aimed at stretching and challenging pupils in years 4 , 5 +6. In the chemistry session led by Miss Oldfield, Head of Science at KEHS, pupils looked at chemical reactions. In pairs, the boys and girls took it in turns to learn how to light a bunsen burner safely. They then used their flames to set light to spills and see the colourful reactions of different chemicals. In the second workshop, pupils focused on physics, taking a trip in the ‘Explorer Dome’ – a travelling inflatable planetarium. The Explorer Dome team performed two shows about stars and our universe. The pupils really connected with the material and asked some very insightful questions about the longevity of our planet!
